Introduction

The website for Amateur Radio (ham) applications of the Atmel AVR® series of microcontrollers is here! Welcome to HamAVR.info

With your help, we can make this website a world class showcase of Amateur Radio (Ham) applications using the Atmel AVR family of microcontrollers. "Your help" means contributing feedback, comments, links to ham related applications of the AVR, participating in the email discussion list, and even reporting broken links.

This site is non-commercial and is not sponsored by Atmel Corporation or other commercial interest. If advertising is ever accepted, it would be for the purpose of paying the bill for web hosting only.

Most of the projects, photos, articles, links, etc. found on these pages should be of interest to hams who would like to become familiar with the AVR family or to construct projects using the AVR chips. These projects have been shared with the world by their originators -- and we thank them for allowing us to gain from their efforts.

Ham-related AVR Projects

What do we mean by "ham-related"? That's kind of hard to define and so we also have some links and projects that are "not quite" ham-related, but quite interesting. For instance, are programmers for the AVR ham-related? Probably, since a ham building something using an AVR chip will most likely need to program it. How about development boards? Yes, OK. How to build a robot? Well, that might be best put in the "not quite" link page unless it uses ham radio for telemetry or control.

Your help is needed. Please submit links to websites containing ham-related AVR projects. In each case where a picture or other information is "borrowed" from other websites, permission is obtained from the owner. We will not seek permission of a website owner to list the site as a link, but if the owner objects, we'll certainly remove it promptly.

Project Hosting

If you have a ham-related project and have not published it on a website, and either you cannot, do not have time, expertise, or desire to publish it -- and you still are willing to share your design with the world, then why not give us a chance to do it on this website for you? Write the webmaster with details. We have plenty of room!

This Site is NOT

We wish to make clear from the beginning that this site is not intended to provoke a religous war of AVR vs. PIC vs. other microcontrollers. The PIC, for example, is a fine microcontroller with many ham applications and is very adequately covered on other websites. In our experience, we just prefer the AVR for many reasons, one of which is the ease of writing programs for it.

Also to be made clear, we will not tolerate any illegal use or posting of copyrighted or propriatary code or devices that would promote illegal activity. So, even though interesting from a communications standpoint, we will not have any satellite TV decryption stuff here.
